What is a Ward?

A ward refers to a specific geographical area or district within a city that is represented by a member(s) of a city council. City councils in many municipalities are divided into wards as a way to ensure equitable representation for all residents.

City council members representing wards are often elected through a system of district-based elections, where candidates must reside within the ward they seek to represent and are voted into office by residents of that ward.
